I had the pleasure to do this interview with Tiago, the co-founder of Podsqueeze.

Description:

Founded by Tiago and João in January of 2023, Podsqueeze is an AI tool which helps podcast owners transcribe and repurpose their content to ultimately grow their podcast faster and with less hassle. The repurposing of content comes in various forms including transcripts, summaries, timestamps, newsletter, blog and social media posts, and all is done in one click.

Business Model:

Podsqueeze runs on a subscription model with a free plan, and monthly paid plans ranging between $15 and $29 per month. As of the last month of September, Podsqueeze generated $14,300 in total revenue with $10,725 in net profit.

Growth Strategy:

The success of Podsqueeze can be attributed to several key marketing strategies, including: Reddit, AI Directories, Product Hunt and Cold Emailing.

Reddit & AI Directories

But first, let’s dive into their initial growth strategy. Tiago mentioned that they were able to get their first 10 customers via launching on Reddit. The following post in the r/podcasting subreddit converted podcasters into beta users and got their idea validated. From there they were able get additional new users by listing their project on three leading AI directories which each get over 1 million visitors per month. These included:

Product Hunt

Tiago attributes the first 100 paying users from their successful Product Hunt launch which ranked them “2nd Product of the Day” with 632 votes on March 29th. This helped them get 40 news users on the first day and make $500 in increased MRR. By April 2nd, they were able to get to $2,000 in MRR.

Tiago was able to succeed with this Product Hunt launch because of 3 key reasons.

Firstly, besides having a solution that has established product-market fit, Tiago spent the year prior building his audience on X to 1,000 followers and thereby also created meaningful relationships. When the time came, he made an announcement post on his twitter feed through which he was able to get support and upvotes. The same applied for Tiago’s WBE community which had 60 highly engaged entrepreneurs in there who also supported his launch.

Secondly, Tiago prepared the launch by warming up the audience one week before the official launch day. This helped increase the chances of get the audience to actually upvote on the day.

And thirdly, Tiago mentioned that he sent out messages to get those crucial first votes as soon as his launch was live, which is always at 12:00AM San Francisco time. This strategy worked well because the sooner you get into the featured page, the more attention you will have and as a result, upvotes.

Cold Email

Now the main growth strategy that helped Podsqueeze scale beyond their initial phase has been utilizing cold email. This approach helped them scale to $6,600 in MRR by the beginning of May and to $10,000 in MRR by the end of July. They started with sending out 300 emails per day to a database of podcasters, and by middle of July they were sending out 4,000 cold emails per day with a 100-reputation score. They did this by creating their own email server, which would allow them to send thousands of emails per day without getting banned like by using other third-party email servers. Their success with cold email conversion can also be attributed to their “human” like and personalized messages.

Here’s a breakdown of Tiago’s effective cold email approach:

1.) Introduction – start the email with a brief introduction on who you are and what you do.

2.) Personalization – include personal details about the recipients to show them that you have done your research.

3.) Product explanation – keep this concise, and display how your product solves their particular problems and how it can benefit them.

4.) End with a question – complete your email with an open-ended question like “do you think my solution will be helpful?” This will improve the response rate.

Lastly, according to Tiago, SEO is their long-term growth strategy now. They started writing several blog articles and are already ranking for keywords like “Podcast AI generator”.

Key Takeaway:

Reddit can be a powerful platform to validate your idea. From there, you can use Product Hunt to jumpstart your initial growth. But for a successful lunch make sure to utilize your network and if you don’t have one, plan in advance to build one wether this be on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc. Making a pre-launch announcement and engaging with everyone on the first hour of the launch will increase your chances to be listed on the featured page, and thereby get more upvotes.
